When most of us think of the holiday season, we assume weight gain comes right along with the fun, family and festivities. And for many of us, that’s usually true. But this year is special because it’s Monday today and we have a WHOLE week until Christmas Day! That means, we can have a whole week of true mindful eating while we frantically shop, wrap and prep. Then Christmas comes and guess what, we’ve all minimized the damage of holiday eating and maybe lost a few pounds.
Most of us live in an extreme state of thinking. If I can’t lose 100 pounds now then why even start now, it’s a waste of time and effort because it’s the holidays. “I’ll just enjoy the holidays and then start in January,” we rationalize. But let’s think about this, I know that when I’m eating like crap, even though I think I’m having fun, I’m internally stressed and moody and not at all cheery. I feel an internal impending fear that I can’t quite put my finger on. Its the fear of the damage I’m doing.
And since many of us need a clear cut plan, or a clean slate to get started, what’s more of a clean slate than 1 whole full week. And it doesn’t have to be a full on crash diet cleanse this week, I’m just thinking we can cut back on the licks, bites and tastes. Focus on other things besides food, like wrapping and shopping. Order with intention. Eat with intention. Dessert responsibly. It’s amazing how much we can accomplish in 1 meal, 1 day, 1 week. Remember that! And, when you wake up Christmas morning, enjoy every ounce and calorie of that day. Because you earned it!
This week of cutting back can unintentionally help us have a holly-er , jolly-Er Christmas. After all, it’s the best time of the year <3
